Detailed Project Descriptions:

SPOOF ADS (Rubric)

Using Photoshop, create an ad that spoofs an existing print

advertisement and communicates a critical message about the company and/or

product. At first glance, the ad should resemble a “real” print

advertisement. Ad must include an image, headline, slogan, company name

and logo. Everything from the original ad must be altered. You can’t use

the original company’s name and/or logo.

The ad must be accompanied on

your DP with a detailed description that includes:

– the message of the original ad

– how the images logos, colors and advertising copy (slogans) communicate this message

– what truths are ignored by the original ad

– the message of your spoof ad

– how you altered the ad to communicate your message

– what Photoshop skills tool you utilized and how

Video Compression for Web and DVD

Students will learn how to export completed video projects from Final

Cut Pro, study different compression formats and post videos to their

Digital Portfolios and burn DVDs.

Homage Project

Homage Project Handout

For this group project, students will emulate master filmmakers by

recreating a scene from one of their films. Students will deconstruct a scene

by studying the camera angles, camera moves, lighting, editing, choreography,

blocking, sound design, props, and set design, then reconstruct the scene

staying as true to the original as possible.

Tutorials

Students will have time throughout the course of the semester to individually work on self-paced tutorials on the software applications frequently used at HTHMA. Tutorials are found by performing online searches, for example “Adobe Illustrator tutorial.” Find tutorials that challenge your skill level. To receive credit, create a tutorials page in your DP, and post a link to the tutorial you completed, along with a description of what you learned by completing the tutorial, and your finished product.

Quizzes

There will be quizzes after each unit of study (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, & Video Production).

Class Participation

Students are expected to arrive to class on time, and work diligently

during class time. Computer gaming and inappropriate use of the internet

will result in the loss of class participation points.

Multimedia Lab Guidelines

No Food or Drink or Gum.  All of the aforementioned wreak havoc with computers and camera equipment.

Computer time is very valuable.  Please don’t use the computers inappropriately – this includes online gaming, aimless web browsing, social networking, etc.  Inappropriate use of the computers will result in loss of computer privileges.

Always log out when done with the computer and keep your password private.

When you log on, you’ll have “Macintosh HD,” “Storage_02_Capture,” “My Documents,” “Student Shared,” Classes Shared,” & “Rosskopf Shared” icons on the desktop.  Everyone at the school has access to “Student Shared,” “Classes Shared,” & “Rosskopf Shared.”  These are not secure, so don’t store files in these, only use them to share among students or to turn things in – KEEP A COPY SOMEWHERE ELSE MORE SECURE!!!!!

Don’t save data to the desktop.  The desktops are wiped regularly and you will lose your data if you save it there.

Your “My Documents” folder file limit is 800 megabits (MB).

Video is a real space hog.  5 minutes of uncompressed video take up 1Gb.  That means you could only store 4 minutes of uncompressed video on your account.  Therefore, when working on Video projects, create a folder in the “Storage_02_Capture” partition of the hard drive.

Press Command (Apple) and “I” to get info about your a folder or file.

You can view the items in your folders three different ways: icon, list, and column.  These each have specific advantages that you will discover by experimenting.

A.B.C. (Alliterative Photoshop Project

Alliteration is the repetition of the beginning sounds of a word in close proximity to one another. For example, Peter Piper, Sioux City Sue, Sally sells sea shells, etc.

In this intro to Photoshop project, you will have a photograph taken of you in front of the greenscreen wall. Then you will come up with a descriptive alliterative nickname for yourself. Next, manipulate the image in Photoshop, using adjustment layers and filters, and replace the green BG (background) to create an image in the style of the alliterative name. Lastly, add a text layer of your alliterative name to the image.

When completed, save the file using the “save for web and devices” feature in Photoshop, host the image online in your “MyDP” folder, and reply to this post with your image. Also, save a full sized jpeg in the designated folder on Rosskopf Shared.

1. animated background layer

2. animated text layer

3. animated image/shape/logo layer

The ad must be for a school related event, project, product, etc. You must contact the client and discuss your concept (idea), copy (what the ad will say), and color scheme. Incorporate any logos that the client may have into your banner ad.
